Some notes By the Numbers from the Isles’ 4-3 OT win over Boston:

2 Goals by Islander defensemen [Niniimaa and Campoli]

3 goals on the season for Campoli – one more than fellow rookie Sidney Crosby. Crosby had a goal credited for a few minutes tonight in New Jersey—it was later changed to Mark Recchi.

1 Point for Radek Martinek – his first of the season

8 times in the first 12 games the Isles have allowed a goal in the final two minutes of regulation time [three of the goals were empty-netters].

10,634 means that there were 5,600 unsold seats. The Isles have drawn 77,568 for their first six dates –an average of 12,928. That’s 79.6% of capacity.

4-2-0 The Islanders continue to be successful at home.

11:16 The amount of time the Isles spent killing penalties. They had only 5:16 of pp time.

0 There were no power play goals scored tonight – it’s the first time in eight games that the Isles haven’t allowed a power play goal and only the second time all season that there wasn’t a power play goal in an Islander game.

1 Shawn Bates was named the game’s First Star for his overtime goal. It was his first OT goal as an Islander.

20 Snow started at the Coliseum for the first time in over twenty months [2-29-04 OT loss to Pittsburgh]

7 Number of seconds played by Colton Orr for Boston

2 Bruins didn’t finish the game. Both Brad Isbister and future HHOF’er Brian Leetch left the game in the second period with injuries.

1 asssit for Joe Thornton, giving him 15 – second in the League to Peter Forsberg. Thornton also added the game-tying goal to get the Bruins into ovetime.

1-8 A bad win-loss record on face-offs for Oleg Kvasha tonight. Kvasha did score the game’s first goal—his first of the season.

34-21 A dominant performance by the Bruins in face-offs. Dave Scatchard won 9 of his first 10 and finished 14 -8. Joe Thornton won 13 of 18. By the middle of the third period, the Isles had won exactly one face-off in the offensive zone.

4 Blake waited until overtime but extended his point streak on Bates’ winning goal.

-3 Trent Hunter was on-ice for three goals –all by Boston.

3-28 The Bruins power play after an 0-6 effort tonight.

1 day that Bruin goalie Hannu Toivoen lived with the Islanders as Stanley Cup Champs. He was born on 5/16/84; the Oilers ended the dynasty the following night. 6 The Isles’ home unbeaten streak vs. Boston [4-0-2]. It ties the club’s best home streak ever against Boston. 6-6-0 The Isles get back to .500. They’ve been no more than one game from .500 all season.

11-4-1 The Isles improve to 11-4-1 on this date with their second overtime win over the Bruins on this date. They defeated Boston 6-5 in 1987 on a Pat LaFontaine tally. Those of a certain age may remember an Islander 4-1 win over California 33 years ago tonight. Germain Gagnon recorded the first hat trick in club history that night.
