Weight restores Middleton to rightful spot in NHL history; other Weight notes

Doug Weight became the 73rd player in NHL history to reach 1000th points. With Weight reaching the milestone, Rick Middleton is once again the NHLer who had the most points but fell short of 1,000. Middleton had 988 (74th all-time, and two more than Dave Keon).

Weight is also the 8th American to reach 1,000 points. Three of the other seven are within reach this season. Keith Tkachuk has 1,010 (and counting); Pat Lafontaine had 1,013 and Brian Leetch finished with 1,028.

Weight now has 729 assists. He ranks 43rd all-time on that list.

Weight's milestone came exactly one week after Bill Guerin become the 79th player in NHL history with 400 goals. It was also the 23rd anniversary of Mike Bossy's 500th goal.

Forever1940 is the nom de plume of Eric Hornick. Eric has worked the Stanley Cup Finals four times, and celebrated his 26th anniversary as the statistician on Islander home telecasts on January 21, 2008.
