Ex- Isles voice silenced

George Michael, who served as an Islander color commentator in the pre-Cup era, lost his battle with cancer early today.  He was 70 years old.

Michael was paried with Tim Ryan on Channel 9 telecasts for several seasons in the mid-late 70's while he was also a DJ at WABC.  Michael moved to Washington, and became a huge hit nationally with the "George Michael Sports Machine" as well as a very popular sportscaster in the DC area.

WRC television in Washington released the following statement about Michael:
"George Michael was our friend and colleague for more than 25 years. He was a dynamic force around our newsroom and in the entire Washington area.

George was a pioneer in sports broadcasting. He was a gifted interviewer, a master storyteller, and one of the hardest working journalists out there.

Our hearts go out to his wife Pat and his daughter Michelle, both of whom also worked with us for many years, as well as the rest of his family. ‬"
