Jiggs to sub for Howie in upcoming games

As Howie mentioned during today's telecast, Jiggs McDonald will fill in for him this coming week and part of next as Howie enjoys a well-deserved vacation.

Jiggs will do four games in all:

December 29 vs Columbus
December 31 @ Ottawa
January 2 vs Atlanta
January 6 @ Colorado

Howie will rejoin the Isles in Dallas on January 8th.

When Jiggs calls the Isles-Thrashers' game on Saturday, he will broadcast a game in his sixth different decade.  Jiggs debuted in the NHL in 1967, as the original voice of the Kings.  He moved to Atlanta to become the first voice of the Flames in 1972 before joining the Islanders for the 1980-81 season.

Forever1940 is the nom de plume of Eric Hornick, statistician on Islander home telecasts since 1982 (and yes, Jiggs was the man who made it possible). Visit my blog: forever1940.blogspot.com and follow me on Twitter @ehornick
