In 2003, the Canadiens sent Gilmour back to the Leafs at the trade deadline. Unfortunately, Gilmour, in the second shift of his first game back with the Leafs, accidentally collided with Dave Lowry of the Flames, resulting in Gilmour breaking his leg. He never played again.
The Habs received a sixth round pick in that deal, and used it to select Mark Flood. Flood has toiled in the minor leagues for five years, and nearly 300 games, but will make his NHL debut tonight.
Flood, who played two seasons with Eric Staal in Peterborough, is a minor league version of Guy Charron (or until recently Olli Jokinen) in that he has never appeared in a Calder Cup playoff game. The Sound Tigers, 8-0-1-0 in their last 9, are currently in a battle with several teams to qualify for the AHL playoffs.
