Frans Nielsen is the first player since Erik Cole to record 2 shorthanded
penalty shot goals in the same season.
Cole did it in for Carolina in the 2005-06 season, beating Martin Biron, then of
Buffalo (11/9/05) and Olaf Kolzig, then of Washington (1/21/06)
Cole had 5 penalty shots that season--one shy of the NHL record, set in 1934 by
Detroit's Ebbie Goodfellow. He also had penalty shots in consecutive games that
year and was the first player to be awarded two penalty shots in one game
(11/9/05).
