Former Isles radio producer Joel Blumberg passes suddenly

Very sad to see this note - I saw Joel Tuesday night as he worked what was
likely his final remote -- a charity event hosted by former Isles PR guru Eric
Mirlis.
Joel leaves a wife and a teenage daughter.

Joel Blumberg of East Meadow, a longtime sports radio broadcaster, producer and
engineer, died Friday, apparently of a heart attack suffered while on the 3:09
p.m. Long Island Rail Road train from Babylon to Penn Station. He was 64.

Blumberg had acted as engineer and producer of radio broadcasts for many local
sports teams, including the Islanders, Rangers, Knicks and St. John's
basketball. For many years, he was the play-by-play man for Manhattan College
basketball games.

Sad, indeed. Joel's enthusiasm for sports was legendary. Seeing his passion, especially on new projects was inspiring. He got to do many, many things most sports fans could only dream of. I was fortunate to know Joel and he will be missed. My deepest sympathies to his family at this time ... a time way too early to be discussing Joel Blumberg's life in the past tense.
