Flyers waive Leighton

The Flyers waived Michael Leighton today. Only New Jersey would have a shot to
claim him before the Isles.

Leighton has a career record with Philly of 17-5-2 in regular season play and
8-3 in the playoffs. He had 3 shutouts last spring for the Flyers in the
playoffs.

Leighton, 29, is in the first year of a 2-year contract with a $1.55 million cap
hit this season and next. He was born on May 19, 1981 -- the North Stars
defeated the Isles in game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals that night; two nights
later the Isles had their second Cup and Butch Goring had his Conn Smythe
Trophy.
