Devils do it their way....

Elias has a few more notes on the defensive style of the Devils.  I was bored just reading it. :)

<<From Elias: As usual in recent Devils games, not much happened in the first period when they took on the Senators in New Jersey on Tuesday night. There were 15 shots on goal, one minor penalty and no goals in the first 20 minutes. It was the 14th consecutive game in which the Devils held their opponent goalless in the first period, extending their own modern NHL record. It's now the second-longest such streak in league history, behind the original Ottawa Senators' run of 18 consecutive games without allowing a first-period goal in 1927-28.

But while the Devils have kept their opponents goalless in 14 consecutive first periods, they've also failed to score a first-period goal of their own in the last seven games. New Jersey's streak of seven straight 0-0 first periods is the longest by an NHL team since December 1936, when Chicago played eight games in a row without a goal being scored in the first 20 minutes.>>

How long ago is 1936 in hockey terms -- consider that the Original 6 were still 8  (Montreal and NY still had two teams).  Jack Adams was named as an NHL All-Star coach (they'd later name the award after him)..etc...
