The newest Islander lost to Notre Dame (and Isles prospect Anders Lee) last
Sunday (3/28) in the Elite 8. Campanale assisted on the only UNH goal in a 2-1
loss. It came with 6:23 to play, and cut the Irish lead to 2-1, which was how
the game ended..
Per the Concord (NH) Monitor, "Campanale skated in all 39 games with 11 assists.
He posted a team-high +25 rating. The senior defenseman was second on the squad
in blocks with 48. He helped anchor a stingy UNH defense that allowed 2.51
goals per game overall.Campanale and the Wildcats finished the 2010-11 season
with a 22-11-6 overall record and qualified for the NCAA's for the
10th-consecutive season. The 'Cats advanced to the regional finals for the
third straight season, becoming the only team in the nation with wins in each
of the last three years"
Campanale played just six games as a Freshman and 22 games as a Soph, before
seeing full-time duty the past two years. He was an assistant captain of the
'Cats, who also have Islander draft pick Blake Kessel on the roster.
Campanale is a Valentine's Day birthday (1988). He is the fourth Valentine's
Day baby to play for the Islanders, joining Sean Hill, Viktor Kozlov and
six-game NHL'er Mike MacWilliam. There are also two "Dynasty Children" born on
February 14th - Brandon Sutter and Eric Nystrom.
Campanale is from West Chester, PA - a suburb of Philadelphia. The Isles visit
Philly on Saturday.
