The Islander family (and most of NY sports) lost a widow of a NY sports legend yesterday. Geraldine (Gerry) Kremenko passed at the age of 91.
Gerry's husband Barney was one of the most popular sportswriters of his time, covering first the baseball Giants (it was he who gave Willie Mays the "Say Hey Kid" nickname), and later the early days of the Mets. He later did public relations and publicity for both the Nets and of course the Islanders and was associated with the Isles until his passing in 1990.
Forever1940 is the nom de plume of Eric Hornick, statistician on Islander home telecasts since 1982. Visit my blog: NYISkinny.com and follow me on Twitter @ehornick
