Never can have too many alternate captains. Although in the case of games this season, the Isles may have two too many.
NHL teams can only have two alternate captains (wearing the "A") for a game (three if the named Captain is not dressed). The Isles however have named four: John Tavares, Kyle Okposo, Steve Staios and Brian Rolston.
Veteran leadership certainly seems to be a theme for this building team and it certainly seems like that was the intent. While Staios and Rolston are both looking to make their Islander debut, they bring 2,122 games of NHL experience to the party. Rolston, for instance, represented the US at the world juniors the year Tavares was born. On the other hand, Tavares and Okposo bring "21-23" to the rinkl. Tavares is 21 years old while Okposo is two years his elder.
The Isles, who played several games late last season without a player born in the 1970's in their line-up currently have 8 1970's births on their roster (including Trevor Gillies, who is on injured reserve).
