S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y Night Isles-Rangers

If you're thinking that it's forever since the Rangers played a Saturday night game on Long Island, you're on the right track.

Tonight's Isles-Rangers game is the 1st Saturday night game on LI between the rivals since March 5, 1994.  The Rangers have made four Saturday trips to the Coliseum since, but all for matinees.

The teams have played only one Saturday night game since 1994.  Kyle Okposo scored in OT for a Boxing Night win at MSG in 2009.

That 1994 game was a pivotal game in Rangers history, as the Blueshirts rallied in the 3rd period for their first win on Long Island since 1989.  Sergei Zubov's power play tally with 1:03 left ended a 15-game Ranger winless streak at the Coliseum.

It also prompted one noted hockey observer to say "uh,oh"  on the way out of the building that night. 3 months later, I was proven right.
