Since the start of the 2010-11 season, only 5 NHL goalies have compiled GAA under 2.30 and save percentages of at least .925
Player | GP | W | L | T/O | SV% | GAA |
Tim Thomas | 74 | 47 | 15 | 9 | 0.938 | 1.98 |
Cory Schneider | 39 | 23 | 8 | 2 | 0.929 | 2.19 |
Pekka Rinne | 87 | 43 | 30 | 13 | 0.927 | 2.24 |
Henrik Lundqvist | 85 | 46 | 31 | 8 | 0.925 | 2.24 |
Al Montoya | 29 | 13 | 8 | 6 | 0.925 | 2.29 |
Thanks, hockey-ref.com for the data!
(Montoya's numbers are even better this season, with a .933 save percentage and a 2.07 GAA -- both are tied for 7th) The other 3 Isles goalies (combined) .893 save percentage and a 3.32 GAA)
Now obviously, Montoya has played significantly less time than the others on the list (Schnieder has played 2107 minutes to Montoya's 1677, and the other three goalies have all played over 4300 minutes) so that makes Montoya's numbers MUCH more volatile than the others but you can't deny, with a relatively limited sample, how successful he has been.

If you drop the save % to .920 I wonder what the list looks like? Guess I found my next online mission! Great Blog Eric, can't believe there are no other comments, let's get the traffic going!
