Why does that make it happy? Well, the Islanders have played seven games on New Year's Day...and lost them all:

Other than Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, two days in which the Isles have never played, January 1st is the only day between October 3rd and April 18th that the Isles have not earned a single standings point.
The only other day that's really close: December 1st. Isles have played eight times on that day, losing seven. The only time they earned a point was on 12/1/00 -- a scoreless tie with New Jersey.
