Here's a mini-Skinny from the Isles' 6-0 loss to Ottawa.
1. The Isles have now gone W-L-W-L-W-L-W-L over the last eight games. It's the first time in club history that the Isles have ever done that (in one season). They had a similar 9-game stretch at the end of the 1999-2000 and beginning of the 2000-01 seasons.
2. The Islanders have been shutout 10 times this season (1-9-0), matching the 2000-01 squad for the second-highest total in club history. The original Islanders were blanked 11 times.
The 6-0 loss matches the worst home shutout in club history. It has happened five times, including twice this season (11/19/11 vs. Boston). Prior to this season it had happened only once (Butch Goring's last game as coach) since Al Arbour's first home game as the Islander coach (10-13-73 – 6-0 loss to Philadelphia). It matches the worst shutout against Ottawa, as well (6-0 on 12/16/00 in Ottawa).
4.
It's the first loss for Isles in a Presidents Day matinee since 2000. The Isles had 4 wins, 1 OT loss and 1 tie in the interim.
On to Buffalo on Tuesday. The Isles are 2-0-1 against the Sabres this season, 3-0-1 in their last four against Buffalo and 6-1-1 in their last eight. The Isles will be looking to earn points in each game against Buffalo for the first time since sweeping the 2003-04 series.
The complete Skinny will return next week.
