This cancels three additional Islander games (10/26 vs Toronto, 10/27 @ Boston and 10/31 vs Ottawa). However, these games would be rescheduled if the NHL and its players can agree on a new CBA within the next week. If so, the Islanders would open the season on November 2nd in Carolina.
Nine Islander games have been canceled at this point (5 at home and 4 on the road). Barring makeups, this leaves 118 games on the Nassau Coliseum
lease.
The press release from the League notes: "The cancellation was necessary because of the absence of a Collective
Bargaining Agreement between the NHL Players' Association and the NHL" which of course isn't really true. Many sports leagues (and other businesses) have continued operation without a CBA in place.
And so it goes...
