All about the 3rd

Some scary numbers for tonight's game.

Through 2 periods, Pens have outscored opposition 66-58 while Isles have outscored opposition 54-53.

But in the 3rd,  Pens have outscored opposition 41-23 while Isles have been outscored 45-30.  The respective +18 and -15 goal differentials are the best and the worst in the NHL.

The Penguins have outscored the Isles 4-2 in the third period this season, with one of the Pittsburgh goals having gone into an empty net.

Add to that the Isles are 0-4-0 on the back-end of back-to-backs, including a blowout loss in Pittsburgh earlier this month.  It's the first time that they have gone pointless in four straight back ends to start a season since they lost their first seven back ends in 1995-96.
