Fastest since Ziggy

I noted in The Skinny last night that Tavares' goal was his 20th of the season, and that it now put him on what would be a 50-goal pace in an 82 game season.

Elias Sports Bureau notes this morning that Tavares needed fewer games to get to 20 goals than any Islander since Ziggy Palffy did it in 1996-97 in the Isles' 29th game.  (Palffy scored 48 goals in 80 games that season)

Elias also noted that Tavares reached 20 goals in 70 games in his rookie season, and now 52, 48 and 33 games in the seasons since.

If he keeps up this trend he should reach 20 goals next season by Thanksgiving. :)

Tavares, who is already the 25th leading goal scorer in Islander history, is one goal behind Ed Westfall and Benoit Hogue, who share 23rd place with 105 goals.  He is four goals behind Matt Moulson, who has been holding at 108 since March 5th  (although Moulson does have 9 assists in those 10 games -- six of them on Tavares goals).
