Ex- Isles coach Laviolette fired by winless Flyers

The Flyers are 0-3-0 and have scored only three goals.  Apparently that is all Peter Laviolette's fault as the former Isles head man is being let go by Philadelphia today and replaced by former Flyer Craig Berube.

Berube also played 38 games for the Isles in the second half of the 2000-01 season (for Butch Goring, and later Lorne Henning).  He was acquired by the Isles from Washington for Vancouver's 9th round choice (previously acquired, Washington selected Robert Muller) in 2001 Entry Draft, January 11, 2001.

Berube left as a free agent at the end of the season so he wasn't around the following fall, when a rookie head coach named Peter Laviolette took over.

Laviolette's note changes part of my Opening Night Skinny, published way back in ... last week.

<<Stability at the Top
Jack Capuano begins the season as the 9th-longest tenured coach with his current team while Garth Snow begins the season as the 10th-longest tenured GM with his current squad.
Of the nine New York head coaches/managers, only Tom Coughlin, Rex Ryan and Joe Girardi were appointed before Capuano, who assumed his role with the Islanders eight days before Terry Collins became the manager of the Mets.>>

Capuano is now the 8th-longest tenured coach with his current team:

Nashville Predators Barry Trotz 1997
Detroit Red Wings Mike Babcock 2005
Boston Bruins Claude Julien 2007
Chicago Blackhawks Joel Quenneville 2008
San Jose Sharks Todd McLellan 2008
Phoenix Coyotes Dave Tippett 2009
Pittsburgh Penguins Dan Bylsma 2009
New York Islanders Jack Capuano 2010

That paragraph about longest-tenured NY coaches may need some updating soon, too!
