The Skinny:
The Canucks are now 4-0-1 in one-goal games, while the Isles are 2-3-3…Brock Nelson recorded his first NHL goal… After being held pointless in the opener, John Tavares has a point in eight straight games (2nd longest streak of his career – he had a 12 game streak in 2011-12); Tavares also has a point in all four games that he has played against Vancouver… This was the sixth straight game to be decided by one goal; eight of the Isles' nine games this season have been decided by one goal (and 12 of 13, going back to last season). It matches the longest stretch of 1-goal games since an eight-game stretch from 12/26/09-1/9/10…Frans Nielsen tied Matt Moulson for the team lead in goals (5); he had only six goals last season.  Nielsen also had his second three-point game of the season, matching his career high…Four of Moulson's five goals have come on the power play and all five goals have come at home…It's the 15th time in his career that Matt Moulson has scored twice in a game; the Isles are 12-2-1 in those 15 games…It's the second time this season the Isles have earned only a single point in a game that they held a 2-0 lead (1-0-2).. The Canucks had a goal disallowed in the second period after Mike Santorelli collided with Evgeni Nabokov.

The Shots:
Isles        12-11-9-0=32
Canucks  9-12-8-4=33

Home and Road
The Islanders are 3-3-3 overall, 2-1-3 at home and 1-2-0 on the road.
The Canucks are 6-4-1 overall, 2-2-0 at home and 4-2-1 on the road.

In the Nets
Evgeni Nabokov made 28 saves but falls to 3-2-3 on the season.  Nabokov is 14-7-4 against the Canucks in his career.
Roberto Luongo made 22 saves for Carolina to improve to 5-3-1.  Luongo is 8-10-3 in his career against the Isles.

Power Plays
The Islanders were 2-4 while the Canucks were 0-2.  It's the second straight game that the Isles have scored twice on the power play.
The Isles are 2-1-3 when they score at least one power play goal and 1-2-0 when they do not.  All nine of the Isles' PP goals this season have come at the Coliseum (9-25 at home, 0-7 on the road), where the Isles have the #1 home power play.
The Isles are 0-2-2 when they allow at least one power play goal and 3-1-1 when they do not.  The Isles have killed 21 of 25 opponents' power plays this season.
The Canucks had allowed only 1 PP goal in 25 time short on the road prior to tonight.

Long Island Power Authority
The Isles were 6-17 on the homestand on the power play, scoring at least once in each game.  They have scored at least once on the power play in all six home games this season, and seven consecutive home games total (including last season's home finale).
Their 4-game streak (overall) of scoring a power play goal is their longest since a 6 game streak from March 17 to March 29, 2012.
It's the first time since November 12-December 13, 2005 that the Isles have scored a home power play goal in six straight games in a single season and the first time since March 27, 2004-October 29, 2005 (8 home games) that the Isles have scored a power play goal in at least seven straight home games.

Three is a Magic Number
The Isles are 3-1-2 when they score at least three goals and are 0-2-1 when they do not.

Second to The One
Jack Capuano is now 2nd on the all-time Islander list in both games coached (204) and wins (87).

Most wins by Islander coaches:
1.     Al Arbour 740
2.     Jack Capuano 87
3.     Terry Simpson 81
4.     Peter Laviolette 77
5.     Ted Nolan 74

Most games coached (Islanders):
1.     Al Arbour 1,500
2.     Jack Capuano 204
3.     Mike Milbury 191
4.     Terry Simpson 187
5.     Scott Gordon 181

They Said It
Brock Nelson: "It was exciting, but it would be a lot better if it came in a win. It was a great play by my two linemates. I was lucky to be on the other end of it."

They Tweeted It
@Goon1214: Congrats to @Bnelson on his 1st career #NHL goal! And I can see many more in the future! #isles

The Coach
"We out-chanced a good hockey team in our building … our power play was good…our penalty killing was good…. We need some guys to engage more…. We (need to) put teams away …we have to find the back of the net.  It's not like we are playing poorly."

Head of the Class
John Tavares has 260 career points; he is 59 points ahead of Matt Duchene for most among 2009 draft picks.  No other player from that draft is anywhere close.  Tavares also has more goals and more assists than any other player from that draft.

Tavares' 300th Game
John Tavares played in his 300th NHL game.  His stats in groups of 100 games:
Games 1-100       32-34-66
Games 101-200   34-57-91
Games 201-300   50-53-103
Career                116-144-260

Easy as 1-2-3
Moulson has 123 career goals (117 as an Islander).  While 262 players were selected before the Penguins chose Moulson in the 2003 entry draft, only 16 have more goals.

Leading Ice Men
Andrew Mac Donald played a career-high 31:26 to lead the Isles for the seventh time this season. It's the second straight game that he has played at least 30 minutes. Ryan Kesler led Vancouver with 28:04.
The Isles are 3-2-2 when MacDonald leads them in ice-time and 0-1-1 when Hamonic leads them.
MacDonald's ice-time is the most for any Islander since Mark Streit played 31:31 vs. Montreal on April 6, 2010.

In the Circle
The Islanders won 27 of 60 draws.  John Tavares won 11 of 18 to lead the Isles; Mike Santorelli won 12 of 17 for Vancouver.

Heavy Hitters
The Islanders out-hit Vancouver 36-22.  Cal Clutterbuck had seven hits to lead the Isles.  There were no fights, leaving the season total at 1: Boulton (1).

Giving Up the Body
The Isles were credited with 20 blocked shots; Andrew MacDonald led the way with four.

All–time Winners
The Islanders remain nine games over all-time NHL .500 (1374-1365-442 in 3,181 games).  The Isles have finished every season since 1977-78 above all-time NHL .500.

Ironmen
John Tavares is the reigning Islanders' ironman. Tavares has now played in 216 consecutive games.
Frans Nielsen (139) and Kyle Okposo (122) also have streaks of at least 100 consecutive games.

Longest Consecutive Game Streaks, Post Cup Era

·         Mariusz Czerkawski 12/23/1999 – 4/14/2002 215

Missing Men
Lubomir Visnovsky is on injured reserve after suffering a concussion on Saturday; Matt Donovan replaced him in the line-up. Brock Nelson, who played for Bridgeport on Sunday, returned to the Isles line-up after being scratched for three straight games. Eric Boulton was also scratched. The Isles have lost five games this season due to injury.

Season Series Stats
The Canucks lead the season series one game to none (and two points to one) with one game to play.  The teams will also play on March 10th in British Columbia.
The Isles are 4-1-4 in their last nine home games against Vancouver.  Six of the nine games have gone at least to overtime; all but one has been decided by a single goal.

Happy Anniversary
25 years ago tonight: October 22, 1988.   Joe Sakic had a hat trick in his first visit to the Coliseum but the Islanders pounded the Quebec Nordiques 7-3.  Derek King had a goal and three assists for the Isles, who have not won on October 22nd since then.
Overall the Islanders are now 3-8-3 on this date, with their point tonight being the first that they earned on this date after six consecutive regulation losses.

On The Farm
Bridgeport is 1-3-1-0 on the season after a 6-5 OT loss to Binghamton on Sunday.  Ryan Strome had a goal and two assists for the first three-point game of his professional career; he leads the Sound Tigers with 6 points (1-5-6).  Bridgeport is off until Saturday when they visit Syracuse.

Up Next
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 25th —ISLANDERS AT PITTSBURGH 7:00PM
[MSG+ (Islanders pre-game at 6:30pm), 88.7 WRHU-FM, 103.9 WRCN-FM]

The Islanders and the Penguins meet for the first time since last year's playoffs on Friday in Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh leads the Metropolitan Division with 14 points, but they are coming off a 1-0 shutout loss to Colorado on Consol Energy Center ice on Monday.  Expect the crowd to play a role; Pittsburgh has sold out 292 consecutive games.
The Isles are 2-13-2 in their last 17 regular season games in Pittsburgh (and went 1-2 there in last year's playoffs).
It's the first of back-to-backs for the Islanders, who will return home to host Philadelphia on Saturday.
