Kevin Poulin was nearly perfect, allowing only a first period deflection goal to Radek Dvorak. However, Justin Peters was even better as the Carolina Hurricanes blanked the Islanders 1-0 before a crowd of 11,541 at PNC Center. The Isles, who were in second place in the Metropolitan Division entering play on Tuesday, drop into a tie for 4th place with the Hurricanes.

The Skinny:
It was the first time this season that the Islanders were held to fewer than 2 goals, let alone shutout. The Isles were the last team in the Eastern Conference to be held under two goals in any game this season… Radek Dvorak's goal was only the 5th scored by Carolina in the first period this season; he has 16 goals in 55 career games against the Isles…It was the 6th time the Hurricanes franchise has shutout the Isles – by six different goalies… The Isles, who were shutout by a 1-0 score only three times in their first 24 years of play, have been blanked 1-0 at least once in each of the last seven seasons… Aaron Ness, who appeared in nine games for the Isles in 2011-12 made his season debut. The 23-year-old Ness was selected 40th overall in 2008 – 13 picks before Travis Hamonic...The Isles have gone 95:22 without a goal since Kyle Okposo scored in the second period on Tuesday.

The 45 combined shots were the fewest in any Islander game this season; it was also the fewest in any Hurricanes game this year.
Home and Road
The Islanders are 6-7-3 overall, 3-3-3 at home and 3-4-0 on the road. The Isles are 0-2-0 on this road trip after winning two straight games to begin the month.
The Hurricanes are also 6-7-3 overall; like the Isles they are 3-3-3 at home and 3-4-0 on the road.
In the Nets
Kevin Poulin made 23 saves but falls to 1-3-0 on the season despite improving his save percentage to .918 and lowering his goals against average to 2.27. Poulin has allowed just two goals in his last two starts.
Justin Peters made 21 saves for the Canes for his third career shutout and improves to 2-5-0 on the season; he has allowed just 1 goal in his last two games. Peters is 2-1-0 against the Isles, having allowed just 3 goals.
Power Plays
The Islanders were 0-3 while the Hurricanes were 0-2. After scoring a power play goal in five straight games, the Isles have been held without a power play goal in their last six games.
The Isles are 3-1-3 when they score at least one power play goal and 3-6-0 when they do not. The Isles are 1-5-2 when they allow at least one power play goal and 5-2-1 when they do not.

Lubomir Visnovsky and Brian Strait are on injured reserve.
