The Isles announced that they have asked for waivers on Pierre-Marc Bouchard. Should Bouchard clear waivers at noon ET on Tuesday it is likely that he would be assigned to Bridgeport. Bouchard, who will turn 30 in April, has not appeared in the AHL since spending the 2004-05 lockout season with the Houston Aeros.
Bouchard has 4 goals and 5 assists in 28 games for the Isles. He signed a 1-year, $2 million contract with the Isles this past July.
The obvious candidate to replace Bouchard on the roster is Ryan Strome. Strome leads the AHL in both assists and points, and has been red hot as of late. Strome has a point in nine straight games and has recorded multiple points in five of the last six games.
Strome was the AHL rookie of the month of November and was also the AHL player of the week for the week ending December 1st, when he tallied 3 goals and 3 assists in 3 games. The winner has not yet been named for the current week, but Strome had 2 goals and 6 assists in three games, including a 7 point weekend (2 games) as the Sound Tigers swept the week and now hold a 4-game win streak.
Update: Strome is indeeed the AHL POTW for the second straight week. He is only the 3rd player in the 20-year history of the award to be honored in consecutive weeks, joining Blake Geoffrion (2011) and Jim Carey (1994).
Bouchard is officially on the Isles roster until noon tomorrow, so any call-up from Bridgeport will not happen for tonight's game in Anaheim. The Connecticut Post's Mike Fornabaio noted a few moments ago that Strome is indeed still with the Sound Tigers today.
The Isles face the Ducks tonight in Anaheim, looking to avoid a 10th straight road defeat -- something that has not happened to them in 40 years. There's more on that streak here: http://www.nyiskinny.com/2013/12/the-skinny-on-road-losing-streak.html
