The Skinny:
Ryan Strome played 14:42 (including 3:43 on the power play) in his NHL debut.  He had 2 shots on goal and won 5 of 11 draws…Carey Price records his first career shutout against the Isles and the 21st of his career….Nine of Max Pacioretty's 80 career NHL goals have come in 15 games against the Isles. …John Tavares and Thomas Vanek each had point streaks ended at three games; Tavares still has a point on eight of the last twelve Isles goals… The Isles have been held to three goals or less in 13 consecutive games; it's their longest such streak since going 17 games early in the 2010-11 season…. The Canadiens have shutout the Isles 12 times, more than any non-divisional opponent…It's the 4th time this season that the Isles have been blanked.

Overtime is (Not) Our Time
The Isles have lost three consecutive home games, all in overtime, for the first time in franchise history.  The Isles have not scored in their last 19 regular season overtimes (and 2 in the playoffs).  They are 0-6 with 13 games going to the shootout since Thomas Hickey scored in overtime to beat Montreal in February 21st at the Bell Center.
The Isles have not scored an overtime goal in their last 13 home overtime games since Mark Streit beat Los Angeles on February 11, 2012.  They are 0-7, with six games going to shootouts.

Rare 1-0 OT Loss
The Isles have lost only three regular season games 1-0 in OT in their history, and two of them have occurred in the last eight months:
·         10-Dec-03 @ New Jersey
·         13-Apr-13 Vs New York
·         14-Dec-13 Vs Montreal
The Isles have three regular season 1-0 OT wins, with the most recent coming on December 31, 2002 in Buffalo.

The Shots:
Isles           9-7-5-0=21
Canadiens 11-6-6-2=25

The 21 shots were the fewest for the Isles in a home game since they had 19 vs. Philadelphia on 2/18/2013.

They Tweeted It
@ColinSchmaeling  Big shout out to Eric Boulton too. The guys really played well lately for #isles. His simplicity shouldn't be over looked

The Coach
"Offensively, we had our chances in a couple of odd-man rushes and a couple of 2-on-1s, but we just can't find the back of the net right now. Both teams played pretty structured tonight, but they got the one in when they needed it."

Back-to-Backs
The Isles are 3-5-0 in the front-end and 2-4-2 on the back end of back-to-backs this season.
On the eight sets of back-to-backs, they have earned 4 points once, 3 points once, 2 points twice, 1 point once and no points on three occasions.
The next back-to-back set will be December 20th (at Rangers) and December 21st (vs. Anaheim).

Head of the Class
John Tavares has 286 career points; he is 69 points ahead of Matt Duchene for most among 2009 draft picks.  No other player from that draft is anywhere close.  Tavares also has more goals and more assists than any other player from that draft.

Season Series Stats
The Canadiens lead season series two games to one (and four points to one).  The final meeting will be on April 10th at the Bell Centre.
The Isles are 6-4-1 in their last 11 games against Montreal.  Montreal's overtime win tonight was their first on Long Island in regular season play since December 5, 1991 (Sylvain Turgeon).

Happy Anniversary
33 years ago tonight: December 14, 1980.  Mike Bossy scored a first period shorthanded goal, a second period even-stength goal, and then added the game winner in the third period as the Islanders edged the Winnipeg Jets 5-4 in Manitoba. Bossy's winning goal came just 18 seconds after Morris Lukowich had tied the game for the Jets with a power play goal.  Only eight of his 573 career goals came while shorthanded.
Overall, the Isles are 4-8-4 on this date with their point tonight being the first they have earned in six games on December 14th since they defeated the Devils 4-1 in 1993.

On The Farm
After losing to Albany on Friday, the Sound Tigers returned home to defeat Providence 2-1 on Saturday at Harbor Yards. Anders Nilsson made 26 saves, allowing only a sole goal with 12 seconds left to play. Bridgeport is now 10-12-1-3 on the season and visits Manchester on Sunday.
Anders Lee leads Bridgeport with ten goals and also leads current Sound Tigers in both assists (11) and points (21).  Ryan Strome still leads both the team and the AHL in both assists (24) and points (33).

The Islanders will host the Tampa Bay Lightning for the only time this season as the Bolts visit Long Island on Tuesday.  Tampa was blanked 3-0 in New Jersey tonight, but has to visit Detroit on Sunday before facing the Isles.
The Isles swept the season series last year, winning all three games in regulation.  The Isles also hold a five-game home winning streak over Tampa Bay.
