I mentioned in The Skinny last night that Michael Grabner had helped rewrite the Isles' record book last night:
It's the second time this season the Isles have scored two SH goals in a game (also scoring twice at MSG on December 20th) but the first time since March 2, 2000 vs Ottawa (3 shorthanded goals) that the Isles have scored at least SH goals in a game on Coliseum ice.>>
The folks at Elias Sports Bureau had a couple of gems to add to that:
It's (Very) Early But…
<<Super Shorty
Michael Grabner scored twice in a 48 second span in the first period; both goals were shorthanded.
Grabner is the first Isle since:
· Mike Sillinger (1/22/2008 at Carolina) to score two shorthanded goals in a game
· Ziggy Palffy (4/17/1999 at Pittsburgh) to score two shorthanded goals in a period
· Ziggy Palffy (4/17/1999 at Pittsburgh) to score two shorthanded goals on a single opponent's power play
Grabner tied an Islander record for SH goals in a period and in a game; he also tied the NHL record for shorthanded goals in a period.

Two quick shorties by Michael Grabner
Grabner's two shorthanded goals in 48 seconds were the fastest two shorthanded goals by an NHL player since Nov. 12, 1988, when Edmonton's Esa Tikkanen scored two in 12 seconds in a game at Toronto. Grabner is the first NHL player to record two shorthanded goals in 60 or fewer seconds of playing time since Jan. 26, 2001, when Chicago's Steve Sullivan tallied two SHGs in 51 seconds at Colorado.
Elias also confirmed that Zigmund Palffy was not only the last Islander to score two shorthanded goals in less than a minute, (tallying two in 53 seconds on April 17, 1999 at Pittsburgh) but he is the only one, leading to another club record for Grabner:
Fastest 2 shorthanded goals, 1 player: 48 seconds Michael Grabner
And then there's Anders Lee....
Two score-tying goals in the third period for Islanders rookie
From Elias: Lee is the first Islanders player to record two score-tying third-period goals in one game since defenseman Uwe Krupp did so on Feb. 24, 1994 at Philadelphia.
(This game had a happier ending, as Rod Brind'Amour beat the Isles in OT that night in Philly)That led to my silly Skinny note from last night:
It's (Very) Early But…
Anders Lee has three goals in his first three NHL games. Only four players in Isles history have averaged more than 0.500 goals per game: Mike Bossy, Pierre Turgeon, Pat LaFontaine and Zigmund Palffy
