Isles sign Kevin Czuczman (Lake Superior State)

The Isles announced that Kevin Czuczman, whose college season ended over the weekend, has agreed to a 2-year entry-level contract with the team, and he will be reporting directly to the Isles.

Before Kinger and Howie have nightmares, it's pronounced "CHURCH-man".

Czuczman is a 6'3' 205 defensemen; he is 23 years old and just finished his Jr season at Lake Superior State.  Czuczman was selected by SBN College Hockey as a 1st-team All-WCHA defensemen this year.  He had 10 goals and 11 assists in 36 games for the Lakers.

At 6'3, 205 he is certainly bigger than most of the current Islander defense corp.

Czuczman is a product of the same Toronto Bulldog program that Ryan Strome played in as a youngster.  He apparently also frequents the same Toronto gym where John Tavares, Casey Cizikas and Strome train.

Czuczman is a few months younger than Travis Hamonic and a few month older than Calvin deHaan.

The NHL's 23-man roster limit does not apply after the trade deadline so Czuczman could become the 24th player on the Isles' active roster without the team making any additional move.

If he plays for the Islanders, he will join JIm Dowd (3 games), Doug Weight and Brian Rolston as players who have appeared in games for both Lake State and for the Islanders.
