Isles trade A-mac

Andrew MacDonald is a Philadelphia Flyer.  The long-term Islander has been sent to Philadelphia for the Flyers' 3rd round pick this year and their 2nd round pick next year as well as Center Matt Mangene.  Mangene is a right-handed shooting center.  In 51 games with Adirondack this year, he had 3 goals and 3 assists.  Mangene, a native of Manorville (Suffolk County), left the University of Maine after his junior year (2011-12) to sign with the Flyers.  He will turn 25 next Wednesday.

AMac's departure ends his consecutive game streak for the Isles at 164.  He had been the Isles' reigning iron-man since Frans Nielsen missed the first two games after the All-Star break.  He appeared in 295 games for the Isles (17-72-89, -11).  MacDonald was leading the NHL in blocked shots (198) but a wide margin at the time of the trade; he fell two blocks shy of the league lead in blocks last season.

MacDonald departs the Isles with the 4th longest consecutive-game streak among defensemen in Islander history.  Ironically, three of the five longest streaks have ended with the player being traded.

Andrew MacDonald has the 4th longest consecutive game streak for a defenseman in Islander history:
1.     Denis Potvin 11/29/1975-1/17/1979  262
2.     Bryan McCabe 10/7/1995-2/4/1998 220 (*)(**)
3.     Gerry Hart 3/1/1975-11/22/1977 198
4.     Andrew MacDonald 12/19/11- 3/2/2014 164 (**)
5.     Janne Niinimaa 3/13/2004-1/7/2006 136 (**)

With the trade of MacDonald, Thomas Hickey is the only player on the Islander roster to appear in every game this season.
