Elias had a couple of additional nuggets on the Isles win last night:
The Isles are the 4th team in NHL history to score 7 goals after not scoring in the first 40 minutes:
- Toronto did it on 1/16/1934 (at Ottawa, 7-4 in overtime)
- Toronto did it again on 2/13/60 (vs Detroit, 7-1)
- Detroit did it 11/27/98 vs Vancouver (7-1)
(Note from Eric -- this make the Isles the FIRST TEAM in NHL history to score 7 goals in a road third period after being scoreless through 40 minutes)
I noted last night (ok, early this morning) that "It's the first time since November 21, 1987 in Philadelphia (trailed 4-1, won 6-4) that the Isles won a road game in which they trailed by at least three goals after two periods." Elias notes this morning that that same game is the ONLY other game in Islander history that they won in regulation after trailing by three goals during the third period.
