New Jersey 6, Isles 1
Jaromir Jagr became the first European-born player to score 700 NHL
goals, and it turned out to be the game winner as well, as the New Jersey
Devils scored four goals in the second period and defeated the Isles 6-1 before
a crowd of 15,512 at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

The Skinny:
The Isles are 1-6-1 in their last home games (including 1-5-1 in their
last seven games at the Coliseum)… The Isles are 4-11-5 in their last 20 home
games… It is only the third time in franchise history that they have won as few
as 9 of their first 32 home games (7-21-4 in 1972-73 and 8-20-3-1 in 1999-2000)…Josh
Bailey assisted on the lone Islander goal, giving him a 4-game point streak for
the first time this season…The Isles are 10-5-2 with Ryan Strome in the lineup…
With Radek Martinek scratched and Frans Nielsen on injured reserve, the 24
year-old Bailey appeared in his 386th game, more than any other
Islander dressed today…The Isles allowed four second
period goals; it is the 21st time this season they have allowed at least 3
goals in a period…Kyle Okposo's goal was his 25th of the season; he
is the 6th American-born player in Islander history to do so.
For the History Books
Jaromir Jagr is the 7th player in NHL
history to record 700 goals, and is now eight goals behind Mike Gartner for 8th place. Jagr joins Marcel Dionne and
Wayne Gretzky as opponents who scored their 700th goal at the
Coliseum; he joins Brett Hull as players who scored his 700th goal
against Evgeni Nabokov. Jagr now has 123
career game-winning goals; he broke Gordie Howe's record (121) earlier this
season. Jagr leads all opponents (all-time) against the Isles with 61 goals, 88
assists and 149 points.
Travis Hamonic recorded 32 penalty minutes in the
third period, tying the Isles franchise record for penalty minutes in a period
(set by Micheal Haley in the 9-3 win over Pittsburgh in 2011). After the game,
the NHL confirmed that Hamonic had been suspended for 1 game for instigating a
fight in the final five minutes.
It's the first time the Isles have allowed 4 power
play goals at home since October 26, 2005 vs. Buffalo and the first time since
January 13, 1989 that the Devils have scored at least three power play goals
against the Isles.

Early But…
Anders Lee has three goals in his first four NHL games. Only four players in Isles history have
averaged more than .500 goals per game: Mike Bossy, Pierre Turgeon, Pat
LaFontaine and Zigmund Palffy

Home and Road
The Islanders are 23-31-8 overall, 9-15-8 at home (including 0-1-0 at
Yankee Stadium) and 14-16-0 on the road. The Isles are 2-7-1 in their last
10 games.
New Jersey is 26-22-13 overall; they are 14-7-7 at home and 12-15-6 on
the road. The Devils have scored at least five goals in consecutive games for
the first time since late in the 2011-12 season.
By Division
The Isles are 6-15-3 in Division games and are 17-16-5 in games against
other divisions. They are 8-5-3 vs. the Atlantic Division, 6-5-1 vs. Central
Division, and 3-6-1 vs. the Pacific Division.
The Isles have losing records against every division opponent except Washington

two periods but falls to 11-13-5 on the season. Nabokov is 6-10-0 in his career against New Jersey. Anders Nilsson, recalled
from Bridgeport this morning, stopped 15 of 16 shots, allowing only a 5-on-3
goal, in the third period.
Martin Brodeur made 18 saves for New
Jersey; he is 14-11-4 on the season. It
is Brodeur's 683rd NHL win; he is 51-28-8 against the Isles. Marty is 5-1-0 in his last six games at the
Coliseum.
Power Plays
The Islanders were 0-3 while the Devils were 4-8.
The Isles are 15-7-4 when they score at least one power play goal and 8-24-4
when they do not. The Isles are 10-17-3
when they allow at least one power play goal and 13-14-5 when they do not.
The Isles are 3-13 in the last three games on the power play after
going 0-30 in their prior seven games. The Isles had killed 42 of 46 (91.3%) over the last 15 games before
allowing four goals today.

7 hits while Anders Lee and Cal Clutterbuck each had 6. Matt Martin missed the

Travis Hamonic fought Steve Bernier in the third period and also received

Blake tallied the winning goal in overtime as the Islanders defeat Buffalo
2-1. Garth Snow made 36 saves in the
victory, which is the Islanders' only win on this date since 1994 (1-7-2
including today) .
All-time, the Isles are 5-11-3 on this date, including a 4-3 loss to
Detroit in 1980 in Ken Morrow's NHL debut.
On The Farm
Bridgeport won its 7th straight game on Friday and is 26-24-1-4 on the
season. Anders Nilsson (recalled to the Isles today) won his 6th straight as Bridgeport beat Providence 4-2. The Sound Tigers host Worcester on Saturday night and Utica on Sunday
afternoon.
Anders Lee leads Bridgeport (and is 2nd among AHL rookies) with
22 goals. Ryan Strome leads the team (and all AHL rookies) in assists (36); he
also leads the Sound Tigers (and is 2nd among all AHL rookies) in
points (49). Of course both players are
now with the Isles.

The Panthers make their first of two appearances this
season on Coliseum ice Sunday, as the teams meet for the second time this
season.
Florida won 4-2, back on January 14th. Tim Thomas had 31 saves for Florida. However, that is the Isles' only loss in the
last five meetings between the teams (4-1-0).
