The Skinny on Chico

Ok, I admit it.

It's all his fault.

For the past 40 years I have followed somewhat obsessively a hockey team, and it really all began when a goaltender named Glenn Resch started kissing goal posts in 1975.

Nearly four decades later, Chico's name is still all over the Islander record book.  Tonight, during the Devils' telecast of their game with the Islanders Chico publicly announced that Sunday will be his final game as a broadcaster, retiring after 18 years of Devils telecasts. "My wife Diane and I have decided we are going back to Minnesota...I'm looking forward to passing the torch (to Ken Daneyko).  ... It's been a good run."

I've had the immense pleasure of sharing meals with Chico before games and working occasional Devil telecasts directly with him.  He is simply the best ... unless you're in a hurry.  You see, everyone wants to talk to Chico...and Chico wants to talk to everyone.

Best wishes to Chico on his retirement.  He will be missed.

(Programming note: a pre-recorded interview with Howie and Chico will air during the 2nd intermission of the Isles telecast on MSG+2 tonight)
