Two great notes from Elias ... and one from little old me.
From Elias:
1. Jaroslav Halak is now 12-0-3 in the last 15 games when facing at least 40 shots. (He's also 15-2-3 in his career when seeing that much rubber.)
2. John Tavares is the second player in Islander history to start a season with three multi-point games. Mike Bossy did it seven straight times to open the 1984-85 season. (Bossy, by the way, will be on our broadcast on Thursday night, and on Hockey Night Live on Saturday.)
From me:
3. Johnny Boychuk & Nick Leddy each scored a goal and went +3 in last night's win. So what, you say? It's the first time two Islander defensemen have scored at least 1 goal and gone at least +3 in the same game in at least 27 years. (I'll see if I can find something before that!)
And for those who don't read The Skinny to the end -- if the Isles beat San Jose tomorrow, they will have won 7 straight games (including the final three of last season). They have not had a 7-game win streak at any time since a 9-game streak that led in to the All-Star Break -- the 1990 All Star Break (December 31, 1989 - January 19, 1990).
As a bumper sticker from 30+ years ago might say, #WinningIsFun.
