A couple of extra notes from last night's win:
We noted in The Skinny last night that "Brock Nelson is the first Islander to have 4 points in a season opener since Mike Comrie (10/5/2007 @ Buffalo) and his 4 points has him tied with Pascal Dupuis (PIT) and Joe Colborne (CLG) for the NHL scoring lead". The geniuses at Elias later confirmed that Comrie was the only Islander to ever have a 4 point opener, before Nelson.
We also noted that Johnny Boychuk was the first defensemen to have three points in his first game with the team since Doug Crossman did so against the Minnesota North Stars on October 5, 1989. Elias later confirmed the Crossman was the only Islander to have done so before Nelson.
Another good nugget from Elias this morning: Boychuk's power play goal, in his first game as an Islander, tied his career total with Boston. His other regular-season power play goal in the NHL was also scored versus Cam Ward, and the Hurricanes, in Raleigh (for the Bruins on January 18, 2011)
And finally, upon request from @r_gatt , Johnny Boychuk is the 342nd player to score a goal for the New York Islanders, while Mikhail Grabovski is the 343rd.
