My "It Happened at the Coliseum" series is now three weeks old...and will continue until May 24th (hint - the Isles will win that game).

(1997) Tommy Salo became the third Islander goalie to record a shutout in the season opener, as the Islanders blanked Toronto 3-0.

(2013): Isles built a 2-0 lead heading to the third, only to fall 3-2 in a shootout to Columbus.

(2007): Mike Comrie scored two third period goals as the Islanders defeated Buffalo 3-2.

(1972): In the first game in franchise history, the Isles dropped a 3-2 decision to the Atlanta Flames.

(2005): The Isles played their first home game in 18 months, and defeated Carolina 3-2.

(1976): The Isles rallied from a 1-0 deficit to defeat Chicago 2-1; Dave Lewis scored a shorthanded goal to tie the game..

(1999): The Isles made Butch Goring a winner is his first home game behind the Islander bench, as they defeated the Colorado Avalanche 4-2.

(1975): Bryan Trottier made his Coliseum debut a most memorable one, scoring three goals and adding two assists in a 7-0 blanking of the Los Angeles Kings.

(1972): The Isles reached .500 for the first time in their history with a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Kings, evening their all-time record at 1-1-0.

(2001): After winning four straight on the road to start the season, the Isles came home to host Detroit in the first home game for Yashin, Peca and Laviolette.

(1982): The Isles raised their third Stanley Cup championship banner as Butch Goring recorded his 13th career hat trick (including 2 shorthanded goals).

(1977): In his first game at the Coliseum, rookie Mike Bossy scored for the second consecutive game as the Islanders defeated Boston 3-1.

(1979): Helmet-Gate. The Flames complained that Isles goalie Billy Smith was wearing a white helmet while the rest of the team was wearing blue.

(1981): Clark Gillies scored two goals as the Isles erased an early Ranger lead and defeated the Blueshirts 5-4 before a sellout crowd at the Coliseum.

(2001): Rookie Radek Martinek scored his first NHL goal, in overtime, as the Islanders improved to 6-0-0-1 on the season with a 2-1 victory over Carolina.

(1985): Pat LaFontaine plays hero, scoring the winning goal at 19:36 of the third in a win over the Rangers
It Happened at the Coliseum … on OCTOBER 20th
(1979): Billy Harris scored a natural hat trick as the Isles rolled to a 6-1 victory over the Hartford Whalers in the first ever meeting between the teams.

(2006): Tom Poti scored a power play goal just 23 seconds into overtime as the Isles rallied for a 4-3 win over the Stanley Cup Champion Carolina Hurricanes.
It Happened at the Coliseum … on OCTOBER 22nd
(1988): Derek King scored a goal and added three assists as the Isles pounded Quebec 7-3 at the Coliseum.
It Happened at the Coliseum … on OCTOBER 23rd
(1975): Chico Resch made 30 saves for his 5th career shutout as the Isles blanked the Stanley Cup Champion Philadelphia Flyers 3-0.
