That's Tommy Soderstrom on the left and Salo on the right. |
16 years ago
tonight (1998): Tommy Salo made 21 saves as the Isles blanked Montreal 4-0 at
the Coliseum. Barry Richter gave the
Isles a 1-0 lead with his first goal as an Islander; Mariusz Czerkawski, who
would go on to score 21 goals on the season, scored his first two goals of the
campaign after starting the season with 14 games without a goal. It was the 4th
shutout of the season for Salo. The
Isles would go 15 ½ years without another shutout against Montreal, ending the
streak on April 10, 2014 at the Bell Centre behind Evgeni Nabokov.
Might be my only chance to show Barry Richter |
After Mike Milbury made Salo cry at an arbitration hearing, he went on to set the Oiler franchise record with 23 shutouts |
Also on this
date: (2013) – John Tavares and Frans Nielsen each had two points as the Isles
defeated Nashville 3-1, snapping a 4-game losing streak.
All-time, the
Isles have played eight November 12th games at the Coliseum and finish with a 3-4-1
record on this date at 1255 Hempstead Turnpike in Uniondale.
