tonight (1980) – Mike Bossy recorded his second hat trick of the season,
raising his total to 15 goals in 15 games, as the Isles beat Chicago 7-3. Bryan Trottier assisted on all three goals
and had a goal of his own as the Isles improved to 7-5-3 on the season.
Bossy’s hat
trick gave him five goals in the last two games; he would add 4 goals in the
next game in the hottest streak of his 50 in 50 start. It was the 10th hat trick of
Bossy’s career.
Mike Bossy was enjoying a hot streak, even by his standards, 34 years ago. |
Bryan
Trottier told Newsday’s Tim Moriarty: “Boss is incredible. Just incredible.
He’s fun to play with now. Heck, he’s always
fun to play with.”
20-year-old
Rollie Melanson improved to 3-0-0; Melanson was with the team because Chico
Resch was injured. Resch would be traded
four months later, leading to Melanson’s permanent recall.
Also on this
date: (1986) – Patrick Flatley became just the 2nd Islander to score
a regular season overtime goal on Coliseum ice as the Isles edged Detroit 2-1.
All-time, the
Isles have played nine November 8th games at the Coliseum and finish with a 5-3-1
record on this date at 1255 Hempstead Turnpike in Uniondale.
