The Skinny: Billy Harris' place in history in jeopardy

Billy Harris played in the first 576 regular season games in Islander history; that streak came to an end when he was a healthy scratch 35 years ago this month (November 30, 1979) as the Isles brought Duane Sutter off the farm (literally) and into the NHL.

Harris would play 47 more games for the Isles before being sent to Los Angeles in THE TRADE, but it is those 576 consecutive games that has his name towards the top of the NHL record book as the most consecutive games to start an NHL career.

However, Anaheim's Andrew Cogliano has never missed an NHL game and tonight played in his 562nd consecutive game.  Cogliano now has the longest active consecutive game streak of any kind in the NHL as Jay Bouwmeester's streak of 737 games ended today.

Cogliano would tie Harris' total on December 22 vs. San Jose and pass him on December 27th in Arizona.

Only two players have had longer streaks than Harris:  Doug Jarvis (964) and Andy Hebenton (630).

The Coyotes, btw, have the players with the second and longest consecutive game streaks.  Antoine Vermette and Keith Yandle (415 and 407, respectively) extended their streaks tonight.
