tonight (1984) - John Tonelli recorded
his third career hat trick and Greg Gilbert added a pair of goals and an assist
as the Isles defeated the Winnipeg Jets 7-4.
Bob Bourne added three points as he passed the 500 point mark of his
career.
Tonelli was one of the most popular players of the Dynasty Era. |
The game
changed with a Duane Sutter – Randy Carlyle fight in the second period. “That
fight by Duane really sparked our club”, Tonelli told the NY Times’ Alex
Yannis. “Duane will do anything to fire up our club. And the man he took with him has always been
tough against us”.
The game was
tied 2-2 at the time of the fight; the Isles responded by scoring the next five
goals to put the game away.
Also on this
date: (2001) – Shawn Bates scored the winning goal and later added a
shorthanded goal for insurance as the Isles defeated Edmonton 4-1.
All-time, the
Isles have played ten December 18th games at the Coliseum and finish with a 4-1-5
record on this date at 1255 Hempstead Turnpike in Uniondale.
