JP Parise deteriorating

Today (Monday) is the 40th anniversary of the trade that made JP Parise an Islander (just over three months later, he scored the goal that made the Islanders the ISLANDERS) in exchange for Ernie Hicke and Doug Rombough.

Bill Torrey noted in Tim Moriarty's Newsday story:  "JP is a helluva fine hockey player.  He play left wing for anybody and I'm happy we were able to get him...He's got a lot of spirit and should give us direction and leadership."

About 21 years he ago, he described his famous goal in a SportsChannel feature:

Parise has been battling cancer and on Sunday night, a sad story from Mike Russo in Minnesota noted that JP has discontinued his chemotherapy and has deteriorated in recent weeks.

Thoughts and prayers to JP and Zach.
