Leddy signs 7- year deal with Isles

Nick Leddy has signed a 7-year deal with the Islanders, meaning his future is set with the Brooklyn-bound team through the 2021-22 season. Leddy, who is only 23, was acquired in one of Garth Snow's Yom Kippur "Feasts During the Fast" as the Isles also acquired Johnny Boychuk the same date.

The rest of that Leddy deal sounded comical at the time, and certainly still does now, as Leddy and goalie Kent Simpson were acquired in exchange for defensemen T.J. Brennan and Ville Pokka and the rights to restricted free-agent goaltender Anders Nilsson.  (Simpson has spent most of this season in Stockton (ECHL) while the 25-year old Brennan and 20-year old Pokka have spent the entire season in Rockford, IL. Nilsson is playing in the KHL for Kazan Ak-Bars)

Leddy is 8-17-25 with a +12 rating for the Isles this season.  Leddy's 8 goals, which are a new career high, are the most by an Islander defenseman since Mark Streit had 11 in 2009-10.

He is among the NHL leaders in several puck possession statistics, including Net Shot Attempts:
Duncan Keith +295
Drew Doughty +257
Nick Leddy +251
Patrice Bergeron +242
Jake Muzzin +240
(In English, with Leddy on the ice at 5-on-5, the Isles have attempted 251 more shots than their opponents)

The Isles have outscored their opponents 41-27 (5-on-5) with Leddy on the ice, meaning that of the 68 goals that he has been on-ice, the Isles have scored 60.8%.  This is third on the team behind Boychuk (62.1%) and  Ryan Strome (60.5%) and just ahead of Anders Lee (60.0%).
