The Isles' final season at the Coliseum, as well as their improved play on the ice, resulted in a79% increase in their average television rating for the regular season, tops in the NHL among (US) Regional Sports Networks, according to Sports Business Journal.
Both the Devils (+39% ) and Rangers (+26%) also showed gains.
The Rangers average rating of 1.63 is nearly double that of the Isles (.61) and Devils (.25) combined.
The Devils increase enabled them to escape the basement of the 21 teams that are measured (Carolina, Nashville, and the Canadian markets are not). Only the Florida Panthers (.17) had a lower local rating than the Devils.
Pittsburgh had a local rating of 6.55 to top the NHL. St. Louis, Boston, Chicago,and Minnesota round out the top 5. Buffalo, who is perenially in the top 5, fell to 4.10, which was 0.10 less than Minnesota.
Based on past press releases, this is the highest year for Isles ratings since they have been tracked, beginning with the 1991-92 season.
The all-time highest rated Isles telecast (since tracking began) locally was Game 6 vs. Pittsburgh in 2013, which drew a 2.21 rating. (Playoff ratings are always higher than regular season ratings.
