This is the 8th time in Isles history that they have played on Super Bowl Sunday. The Isles are 1-3-3 in SB Sunday games, including 0-2-1 at home.
Ironically, the only Islander win came in a game vs Edmonton in 1983. The Isles raced to a 4-0 lead and defeated the Oilers 4-2 in Edmonton in a game that started after the Super Bowl.
The last time the Isles played on Super Bowl Sunday was three years ago. One current Islander had a big day – Steve Bernier scored twice as the Devils beat the Isles 3-0. It was Bernier's first 2-goal game as a Devil, marking the fifth different time for which he had recorded a 2-goal game.
