The Isles scored three second period goals to break open a scoreless game and rode 22 saves from Jean-Francois Berube as they snapped a four-game winless streak with a 3-1 victory over the Ottawa Senators before a crowd of 13,837 at Barclays Center.

John Tavares, Matt Martin and Brock Nelson scored for the Isles, with the Martin/Nelson goals coming 21 seconds apart. 

With the win, the Isles climb within one point of third place Penguins and move four points ahead of the fifth place Flyers. All three teams have ten games to play.

The Isles magic number for clinching a playoff spot falls to 15.

The Isles scored first for the first time in 7 games (March 9th in Toronto) although they extended their first period scoreless streak to 131:52…The Isles have led after one period only once (3/6 at Rangers, 4-3) of the last 14 games…Each of the last three Isles games has been scoreless after 20 periods…John Tavares regained the team lead in points (57), breaking a tie with Kyle Okposo… The Isles are 7-1-1 in their last nine home games… Shane Prince's assist was his first as an Islander…Matt Martin matched his career high in goals…It was Martin's 40th career goal, and nine have been game-winners.  Martin has at least one game-winning goal in each of his six full seasons… The Isles scored three goals in a 9:25 span after scoring only three goals in the prior 10 periods…The Isles improved to 26-2-2 when leading after two periods…The Sens are 3-10-0 on the second-half of back-to-backs…Bobby Ryan played in his 600th NHL game…Nick Leddy's assist was his 37th point of the season, tying his career high (also 2011-12 and 2014-15).

Frans Nielsen played his 597th game as an Islander, passing Garry Howatt and tying Kenny Jonsson for 12th place among skaters on the all-time Islander list.
Josh Bailey played in his 547th assist, tying Duane Sutter for 17th place on the Isles' all-time list. His assist on Tavares' goal was his 154th as an Islander, tying David Volek for 26th place on the Isles all-time list.

The Isles have clinched an above NHL-.500 finish at home.  It is the first time since 2005-06 and 2006-07 that the Isles have recorded successive home seasons above NHL-.500.

JF Berube made 22 saves to improve to 2-1-1 on the season; Berube, who has stopped 55 of 57 shots in his last two starts (1-0-1, 0.96 GAA, 96.4 save %) is 2-0-1 in his last three starts. It was his first career appearance against Ottawa.
Andrew Hammond made 20 saves but fall to 5-9-4; Hammond is 1-2-0 in his career against the Isles,

Season Series Stats
The Isles win the season series two games to one and five points to two.
This was the Sens' first regulation loss to the Isles in New York since a 5-3 Islander win on February 5, 2011.
 
On The Farm
The Sound Tigers' five-game winning streak ended on Wednesday with a 6-3 loss to Portland. Bridgeport is 36-24-3-3 on the season and are now two points behind Providence for 3rd place in the Atlantic Division.  Bridgeport visits Hartford Friday in their only game this weekend.

It's been nearly four months since the Isles defeated Tampa Bay 3-2 on Thanksgiving weekend in the only meeting of the teams so far this season.  The Isles, who trailed 2-0 in that game, rallied on goal by Josh Bailey and Cal Clutterbuck in the second period to tie the game; John Tavares scored the winning goal with 3:36 to play.
 
The teams will now meet twice in 11 days to finish the regular season series, including Friday's battle at Amalie Arena.
 
The Isles have won three straight overall from Tampa Bay, and will be looking for their longest winning streak against the Bolts since winning five straight from Tampa in the 2001-02 and 2002-03 seasons.
 
The Lightning are currently tied with Florida for the Atlantic Division lead; Tampa holds the tie-breaker.
