Overtime is Quine Time! Alan Quine scored a power play goal 16:00 into the second overtime period as the Isles won their longest game in 29 years by defeating the Florida Panthers 2-1 in the fifth game of their Eastern Conference First Round Playoff Series before a sellout crowd of 20,247 at BB&T Center.
Aleksander Barkov had a chance to win the game on a penalty shot at 7:19 of the first overtime but was stopped by Thomas Greiss for one of his 47 saves.
It's the first time since the 1993 Patrick Division Semi-Finals vs Washington that the Isles have led a playoff series 3 games to 2.

The Skinny
The Isles are 10-16 all-time in game 5's played on the road and 16-20 in game 5's overall… John Tavares' playoff point streak ended at 4…The Isles have not won consecutive playoff games since games 3 and 4 vs. Toronto in 2002 but will have their 13th chance at it on Sunday.…The Isles' playoff power play was 2-34 in 2013 and 2015, but they are 5-18 this season; they have scored power play goals in three consecutive games in one series for the first time since connecting in each of the final five games against Toronto in 2002…It's also the most PP goals that the Isles have scored in a playoff series since scoring 11 vs. the Leafs in 2002…The Isles scored the first goal in a playoff game for the first time since Game 6 vs. Washington… Jaromir Jagr recorded his 201st career playoff point on the Aleksander Barkov goal. Jagr has 18 assists, but no goals, in his last 36 playoff games…The Isles improve to 4-2-0 in playoff games played on the first night of Passover, including double overtime wins in both 1990 and 2016…Thomas Hickey assisted on both goals for his first multi-point playoff game…The Islanders have won two overtime games in a series for the first time since 1993 vs. Washington, when they won three times in overtime…The Isles challenged the Florida goal for a potential offside but video review was inconclusive. The Injury
Nick Bjugstad left the game with an injury early in the 2nd overtime. He did not return and no word was given about his availability for game 6.
Overtime is Quine Time
Alan Quine is the first Islander rookie since Kenny Morrow (April 11, 1980 and April 20, 1981) to score an overtime goal in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. He also supplants Morrow as the Islander with the least regular season experience prior to scoring an overtime goal. Quine played two games earlier this month; Morrow played 18 games for the Isles late in the 1979-80 regular season and thus was considered a rookie in both the 1980 and 1981 playoffs.
Quine, Morrow and Thomas Hickey (game 3) are the only players in Islander history to score their first career playoff goal in overtime. Quine, Morrow and Mike Bossy (4/18/1978 vs. Toronto) are the only Isles rookies to score in overtime.
Overtime is Our Time
The Isles are 32-14 (.696) all-time in overtime, including 16-7 on the road. The .696 overtime percentage is the best in NHL history.
This was the 2nd longest game in Islander history and their ninth multiple-OT game. The Isles are now 6-3 in multiple OT games and have won the three longest games in their history.
Florida is 2-7 all-time in overtime. This was the longest Panther home game and their longest since losing to Colorado (Uwe Krupp 44:31) in the clinching game of the 1996 Stanley Cup Final.

Thomas Greiss wins his 2nd overtime game and needed to become the first goalie in 18 years to stop an overtime penalty shot.

In all three cases the goalie that stopped the penalty shot eventually won the game. Jaromir Jagr not only played in all three games; he had at least one point in all three.
Respect to the Eldest
Marek Zidlicky made his series debut an assisted on the winning goal. Zidlicky (39 years, 79 days) is the oldest player to ever appear in a playoff game for the Isles. This was Zidlicky's 11th career overtime game and his first OT point. He now has 16 career playoff points (1-15-16).
It's Finally Over
Alan Quine's overtime goal ended an Islander 11-game losing streak in Game 5's (including the last 10 on the road)

Prior to tonight, the Isles last win was in a game 5 was in the 1987 Division Final against Philadelphia. Islander legends Bryan Trottier and Ken Morrow assisted on Randy Wood's first career goal; it turned out to be the winner in a 2-1 Islander win.

With 8 goals in those 18 games, only Bossy (.66), Ray Ferraro (.64) and Steve Thomas (.45) have averaged more goals per playoff game as an Islander than Tavares (.44) [Minimum 5 goals]

The Isles have not won a playoff series since the 1993 Division Final. They have not had a happy handshake on home ice since the 1993 Division Semi-Final.
