Jonathan Marchessault scored the tying goal with 15 seconds to play and rookie Denis Malgin then scored the winning goal in overtime as the Florida Panthers rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Isles 3-2 before a crowd of 15,828 at BB&T Center.
Brock Nelson and Nick Leddy scored for the Islanders, who had a two-goal lead until just before the mid-point of the third period.

The Skinny
The Isles' defense had two points, giving them 13-33-46 on the 40 goals the team has scored this season… Kyle Rau's goal was his 1st NHL goal…When Brock Nelson scored late in the first period it gave the Isles their first lead in any of their five road games this season…Josh Bailey's assist on the 2nd goal got him into the top 25 in Isles history in both assists (tied-25th with Ziggy Palffy) and points (tied-24th with Steve Thomas and Jason Blake) …Johnny Boychuk played a season-high 25:51…Reilly Smith played in his 300th NHL games…The Panthers have alternated losses and wins over the last eight games… The Isles had the game's first power play for only the third time this season; their six power plays matched a season high…Jonathan Marchessault's 8 goals match his career total in 49 games prior to this season.
The Coach's Challenges
Two Coach's Challenges went the Isles' way in the second period. Video upheld the referee's call that Brock Nelson had not interfered with Roberto Luongo (ow.ly/Lw3a306785V) and then reversed the referee's call that Jaromir Jagr had not interfered with Jaroslav Halak (ow.ly/8cic30678a1).
The Injury
Dennis Seidenberg suffered an apparent upper-body injury on the play leading to Florida's first goal. He did not return.
Late Losses
The Isles have been tied in the third period in four of their seven regulation losses (and seven of their ten overall losses) but have allowed the lead goal in the final 3 minutes of regulation three times:

Season Series Stats

On The Farm
The Sound Tigers won back-to-back shootouts this weekend to improve to 8-4-0 on the season. Stephon Williams earned his first two victories on the season. Kellen Jones and Connor Jones each had a goal and an assist in Friday's win in Syracuse while Steve Bernier and Carter Verhaeghe each had a goal and an assist in Saturday's win in Hershey.
Christopher Gibson has all six regulation time wins for the Sound Tigers (6-0-0, 2.52 GAA) while Bracken Kearns leads the team in scoring (5-7-12) and is tied with Michael dal Colle for the goal scoring lead (5).

The Islanders and Lightning conclude their season series as they meet for the third time in two weeks in the first of the a two-game homestand.
The Lightning have outscored the Isles 10-2 in winning the first two games of the season series. Four Tampa Bay goals have come on the power play and the Lightning also have a shorthanded goal.
Pittsburgh will be in Brooklyn on Friday as the homestand features the two teams that battled for the Prince of Wales Trophy last spring.
