Jason Demers broke a 1-1 tie early in the second period and the Islanders could not find the equalizer, falling 2-1 to the Florida Panthers before a crowd of 13,529 at Barclays Center.
 
Nick Leddy scored the only Islander goal, as he passed last year's total with his sixth of the season
 
The Isles are 0-1-2 in January, with all three games decided by a 2-1 score.

The Isles allowed the first goal for only the 5th time in the last 20 games… The Isles are 9-6-4 in the last 19 games… Florida is 13-1-3 when leading after two periods while the Isles are 0-10-1 when trailing after two periods.…Thomas Greiss is 3-1-2 in his last six and 6-2-2 in his last 10; he has allowed two goals or fewer in six straight games… Florida had only one third period shot, by Jonathan Marchessault, with 11:33 to play…The Isles did not score a second period goal for the first time in 13 games…All three goals were scored by defensemen…Adam Pelech played his first NHL game since being injured on November 28th vs. Calgary…Jussi Jokinen's assist on the winning goal was his 350th NHL assist…The Isles had Jaromir Jagr (61-92-153 in his career vs Isles) without a point…Florida has won five games this season by a 2-1 score...Jiggs McDonald was honored before the game and then called the game for MSG+.  He is the only broadcaster to call an NHL game in all 50 seasons since expansion.

Josh Bailey played in his 596th game, tying Garry Howatt for 14th place on the all-time Isles list.
 
Jack Capuano coached his 480th NHL game, tying Don Cherry and Bob Johnson for 69th place all-time.

John Tavares was held pointless. He still needs two points to become the 10th player in Islander history with 500 career points.

The Isles have scored twice in the final minute of regulation to either tie or win a game:
