The Isles have lost three of four games (1-3-0) to open the season. It's the first time since the end of the 2017-18 season (35-37-10) that the Isles are two games under NHL-.500

The Skinny
The Isles scored on their first two power play attempts, matching last season's high in power play goals (2); it's the first time since February 21st in Edmonton that they have scored twice on the power play…Jordan Eberle assisted on both goals for his first two points of the season…With no even-strength goals for and five against (including an empty netter), the Isles as a team were -26 tonight, with only Scott Mayfield, Leo Komorov and Matt Martin avoiding a minus… Nick Leddy sat out with an injury, ending his games played streak at 85 straight games…Noah Dobson played 13:52, including 7:28 in the third period…Johnny Boychuk's power play goal was his first goal since January 5th against St. Louis; 7 of his career 53 games have come across Carolina…The Isles won their first seven division games last season, but are 0-2-0 vs. the Metro this season…The Isles had only one shot on goal at 5-on-5 in the second period and only two shots total in the third period.

Brock Nelson has been a fast starter during his NHL career.  He is 25-21-46 in 64 career October games, tallying more goals and more points than in any other month.  If not for a video review overturning a goal on Tuesday, he would have had a goal in three straight games.

Season Series Stats
Carolina leads the season series 1 game to 0 (and 2 points to 0).

While Carolina won both home playoff games against the Isles last season, the Isles had won three straight regular season games in Raleigh, including a pair of 2-1 wins there last October.

The teams will meet again in Raleigh on January 19th to continue the season series.

On the Farm
Travis St. Denis and Matt Lorito each had a goal and an assist and Christopher Gibson made 42 saves as the Sound Tigers recorded their first win of the season, defeating Charlotte 4-2 on Friday night.

The same two teams will face-off in Charlotte on Saturday.

Up Next
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 12th— FLORIDA AT ISLANDERS (NASSAU COLISEUM) 7:00PM
[MSG+ (Islanders pre-game at 6:30pm), 88.7 WRHU-FM, WRCN 103.9FM, ESPN 1050]
The two winningest active coaches will meet for the first time behind the Florida and Islander benches as Joel Quenneville leads the Panthers to Long Island.

The Panthers are probably disappointed this game is not in Brooklyn as the Cats have won five of six regular season games as Barclays Center.  Overall, the Isles are 3-3-1 in the last seven games against Florida, with two of the three Islander wins coming in shootouts.
