The Skinny: Isles 2, Florida 1

"The Skinny"

By Eric Hornick

Game 16
Isles 2, Florida 1
Scott Mayfield scored the winning goal just 38 seconds after Aleksandr Barkov tied the game as the Isles earned a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the Florida Panthers before a crowd of 13,100 at Barclays Center. The Isles are 11-0-1 in their last 12 games, representing their longest point streak in the Post-Cup era.

Mathew Barzal scored the game's first goal and earned an assist on the winning goal.  Thomas Greiss made 37 saves for his sixth straight game; he has allowed only 10 goals in the six games. Greiss is now 7-1-0 on the reason and his .875 winning percentage is the best in the NHL.

The Isles are 12-3-1; their 25 points matches the highest total through sixteen games in the club history (also in 1976-77).

The Isles have outscored the opposition 18-8 in the second period this season…Each team had a power play goal disallowed for a high stick…Mathew Barzal scored his team-leading 7th goal and later added an assist for his team-leading 14th point as he recorded his 38th multi-point game; the 38 multi-point games are the most by an Islander over the last 2+ seasons… Keith Yandle extended his ironman streak to 813 games.
