Quinn Hughes scored his first career overtime goal 48 seconds into overtime as the Vancouver Canucks overcame an Isles comeback to defeat the Isles 4-3 before 14,862 at Barclays Center. 

Brock Nelson had scored with 25.9 seconds to play to force the extra session as the Isles extended their regular season point streak in Brooklyn to twelve games.

The Skinny       

Barry Trotz  remains tied with Peter Laviolette for 4th place on the all-time team list with 77 wins… Brock Nelson's tying goal was his team-leading 21st; while he has scored at least 19 goals in six straight seasons, this is only the third time he's reached 21.  Nelson is 6-3-9 in the last seven games... ..JT Miller reached 20 goals for the fourth time in five seasons…Michael Dal Colle scored for the first time since December 14th… Jordan Eberle has scored five times in the last nine games and now has 20 goals in 40 career games vs. Vancouver (among active players only Patrick Marleau -30 goals has more) …The Isles have earned points in three straight games (1-0-2), matching their longest streak since the 17-game point streak in October/November… Quinn Hughes is the youngest defenseman in Canuck history to score an overtime goal; he now leads all NHL rookies with 38 points…Josh Bailey now has at least 20 assists in seven straight seasons…Tom Kuhnhackl went -3 and did not play after the second period…Mathew Barzal has an assist in all five games he's played against the Canucks (0-7-7)… The Isles have gone to overtime in 16 of 50 games and are on pace to eclipse the club record of 25, set in 2009-10…While Tim Schaller scored on a delayed penalty, the Isles were not shorthanded for the third time this season...The Isles are 2-5-3 in their last ten home games… The Isles had a +27 shot advantage, largest since going +34 in Detroit on December 15, 2019…The Isles had at least 17 shots in the third period for the third time this season (10/14 vs STL, 11/19 @ PIT); the three times this season the Isles have had at least 17 shots are also the three games that the Isles have had at least 17 third period shots...Anders Lee played in his 250th consecutive game.

The Late Tying Goal

Nelson is only the second Islander to ever score a final-minute, game-tying goal at Barclays Center (in regular season play); Ryan Strome did so in 2016, also against Vancouver.

Nelson's goal (at 19:34) was the latest by an Islander since Anders Lee scored at 19:58 in Dallas on March 3, 2015.  It was the latest in an Islander home game since PA Parenteau scored at 19:47 vs. Toronto on January 24, 2012.

The Isles are 29-15-6 thru 50 games this season; they were an identical 29-15-6 thru 50 games last season.  Their 64 points in 50 games matches the 2018-19 squad for the second-highest total in the Post-Cup era (65 points in 2014-15).
