Longest Islander Goalie Winning Streaks
11 - Jaroslav Halak 2014-15
10 - Billy Smith 1981-82
8 - Mark Fitzpatrick 1989-90
8- Robin Lehner 2018-19
8- Thomas Greiss 2019-20
8- ILYA SOROKIN 2020-21 CURRENT
So Sorokin is the third Islander goalie in the last three seasons to have an 8-game win streak, but only the sixth in franchise history to do so. With four of the seven occurring in the last seven seasons, it is a good reminder that it is easier to put a win streak together in the current NHL as every game has a winner. There was overtime in Fitzpatrick's era, but not in Smith's.
Sorokin is the 23rd rookie in NHL history to record an eight-game win streak -- only 11, including Minnesota's Kaapo Kahkonen earlier this year, have reached 9. Only four rookies have reached 10 - none since Ross Brooks won a record 12-straight for Boston in 1973-74.
Sorokin has won five straight at home and three straight on the road. Only one NHL rookie goalie in the last 39 years has won as many as eight straight at home - Semyon Varlamov did that in 2009-10 for Washington.
