Ilya Sorokin made 24 saves for his third shutout of the season and the Isles extended their point streak to seven games as they blanked the Winnipeg Jets, 2-0, before a crowd of 13,424 at Canada Life Centre.
Anders Lee scored the only goal of the first period as the Isles grabbed the lead for the seventh straight game while Brock Nelson's third period tally gave the Isles the insurance that they needed. It was Nelson's fifth goal in the last two games.
The Isles are 5-0-2 in their last seven games; their twelve points match their highest total through nine games under Barry Trotz (6-3-0 in 2019-20).

The Isles have scored first in seven straight games and in eight of their first nine games; last season the Isles scored first in 27 of their 56 games…The Isles have not allowed a first period goal in seven straight games, and have allowed only three in their first nine first periods …Ilya Sorokin, the only goalie to play every game for his team, improved to 5-0-2 in the last seven games, allowing only eight goals on 225 shots. He matched Felix Potvin for the second-longest appearance streak to start an Isles season (9 in 1999-2000)…Lou Lamoriello became the 6th person to win 1,500 regular season/playoff games as an NHL General Manger…Ilya Sorokin has not allowed a goal in sixteen of his last 21 periods; he has entered the third period with a shutout in five of those seven games....The Isles snapped the Jets' eight-game point streak (6-0-2), matching the longest since the franchise moved from Atlanta…It was the first time the Jets were shut out this season…The Isles have points in seven straight road games for the first time since their 17-game point streak was snapped two November's ago; they went 6-0-1 on the road during that streak. • Brock Nelson became the first Islander since John Tavares (2011-12) to score seven times in the first nine games.
• The Isles recorded their first shutout against the current Jets in Winnipeg; their last shutout vs. this franchise was by Rick DiPietro on December 16, 2006 (at the Coliseum vs. Atlanta)
• Ilya Sorokin is the first Islander since Billy Smith (March 20, 1988) to record a shutout in Winnipeg. Smith also blanked the original Jets in Manitoba in 1979 for the only previous shutouts in Winnipeg by an Islander goalie.
• Ilya Sorokin is the first Islander goalie with three shutouts in the team's first nine games since Tommy Salo also did it in 1998-99.
